Well, if yesterday's post seemed a little... down, well, it reflected my views on the world I found myself in at that very time. I was tired and felt very alone. I don't know what stopped me from getting back into a cab and going back to the airport (other than knowing I wouldn't get a flight that night).
Today I feel quite different. After waking up at 8:15am, in time for breakfast, I got down there to discover that when they said breakfast they actually meant breakfast. There were bagels, danishes, fruit, cereal, and probably other things. What a great way to start your first day in a new city than a good tasty breakfast? Well, while sitting down having a roommate come up and start talking to you, that's what. So with that I felt quite a lot better.
After breakfast, and asking people where I could find a fido store and the place to get your SIN (I really dig that acronym - I suspect they don't use it though), I sat down with my laptop and figured out a way to get access - through a monthly pass from boingo. I then proceeded to lose track of time and waste a couple of hours downloading TV and chatting on IRC. Oh IRC, why must though be so great? (By the way: if you ever want to chat and the other methods don't do it for you, hop on to irc.nzwired.net and join #wellylug - if I've got an internet connection you'll see me there)
So we've got three paragraphs and we're not even up to lunch yet! Please, hang in there - I'm sure these entries will get more interesting over time (in fact they'll probably just get less frequent. Forgive me.). I found a fido store, agreed to a plan (with 4 months minimum connection, I wonder if they'll let me change area codes if I move...), and got a number. If you wish to update your address book it is +1 604 779 4565. Or you can just go and grab my vCard from my contact me page.
With that I grabbed lunch and sat in a park. (You don't really expect me to pontificate on the park, do you?) Post lunch it was time to visit the Human Resources Centre, or something like that. It's the place where you get your Social Insurance Number (or SIN, as I like to call it), and it is thusly applied for. Hopefully the little reciept the gave me will be enough if, er, when, I get a job in the next two weeks.
My task for this weekend is to get out and explore some more - and also trawl [craigslist][2] looking for somewhere to live, in my price range, preferably furnished. Rest assured you'll hear all about it. The other thing I need to do this weekend is catch up on importing photos into Aperture. So much to do, so much to read, so little me :)
