Down to 10 days until departure, you'd think it would have dawned on me that I'm leaving by now, but to be honest it still hasn't. That sense of urgency you'd expect? Not there yet.
Today was "convince the Americans that I ought to be allowed a visa to visit their fair country" day, which went well, as I would've expected really. I'm going to Canada on a work permit, so I guess it's easier to say "well, he's working there, lets trust him". Which is good, because all I want to do is go to WWDC and meet the parents in New York in December. Not unreasonable, I think. I should have it (and my passport) back tomorrow.
So, given that you might have guessed I'm in Auckland. Last week we packed up (nearly) all my stuff. Some went by a moving truck (it should arrive on Wednesday), the rest in the car with us. We stopped in Taupo, where the motel had a spa. I don't know about you dear reader, but I can't think of anything better than having a nice long spa after 4 hours sitting in a car. Followed by watching some TV on the laptop, and falling asleep.
If you're not a computer geek the following will probably not elicit cries of sympathy, but if you are you will know what I mean. I'm down to one, yes one, computer. It has real downsides - I have three desktop hard drives (one of which is actually in an external enclosure, the other two are not yet), yet can't easily use them while sitting watching TV. Oh well.
I've also built a nifty little, lets call it a hack, that allows me to acquire digital media, place it in a folder, and turn it into a "podcast" (ie. RSS2 feed with enclosures). This is primarily for my use, but if you are interested in trying it out drop me a line.
