Five songs I listen to a lot/mean a lot to me:
- The Beautiful South - The Sound Of North America
- Pink Floyd - Coming Back To Life
- Jackson Browne - The Pretender
- Shaun Davey - The Parting Glass
- Chris Isaak - Somebody's Crying
And now the part where I do something different, I'm going to say why.
The Sound Of North America
I once had a discussion about this song (with a girl who I quite liked at the time), who claimed it just made no sense. Which on some levels is true, but with lyrics like "You can fight with anybody with a glimmer of a chance, but god help the boxer with no hands" I couldn't leave it out.
Coming Back To Life
Again it's the lyrics and the sound, but that's too obvious. I like a lot of Pink Floyd, but there is something about this Division Bell track. Read into it what you will
The Pretender
Talks (sings?) about going to work each day, going home, rinse, lather, repeat. Reminds me to think about time passing. Which it seems to anyway. Oh how it would be to not have to worry about doing something for money. "He knows that all his hopes and dreams begin and there", "I'm going to find myself a girl, who can show me what love can bring, and we'll fill in the missing colours in each others paint by number dreams".
The Parting Glass
I believe this is a traditional song, though I could be wrong. My version of it comes from the movie Waking Ned Devine (excellent excellent movie). I'd like to think that by the time I die that I have shared what I can with those I care about. "So fill to me the parting glass, goodnight and joy be to you all".
Somebody's Crying
Because lets face it sometimes you do.
Right, I could try this "pass the baton" thing, but I have no idea if any of the following read my little slice of the internet:
(I'll come back and make links out of things later)
