Dashing Conspiracy

By now those of you who care will have already had a look at the Tiger "sneak peak" on apple.com. Those of you who follow Mac news, or read mac developer blogs, or were paying attention may have noticed the quiet murmor going on about the similarity of the new feature Dashboard with a certain other product.

DaringFireball's Dashboard vs. Konfabulator says pretty much everything reasonable and thought out there is to say.

I specifically agree with not buying Konfabulator and integrating it into the next version of OS X. I don't use Konfabulator. I installed it once, even played with it for a few days. I removed it for several reasons, not least of all I couldn't (easily) make my own widgets. It's ram/cpu useage was outrageous. And quite frankly, I didn't see a runtime as being worth USD$25.

I agree that Dashboard is not a rip off of Konfabulator because it is just a new implementation of the original Desk Accessories, but in way that will be easy to code. It's something I remember from older Macs, it's something that even up until OS9 you saw in the sense of the Calulator (which under OSX isn't nearly as handy. Maybe they will ship a Dashboard version of the Calculator?)
