Apple Goodness

Well, as predicted by the folks at ThinkSecret, Apple did indead announce new cinema displays, including a delicious 30" model. Sadly, I guess, the ADC has also seen the end of it's life. Personally I always thought that was one of the great things about the G5 - one video cable to rule them all, and now we have one cable from the monitor that splits into 4 cable behind the Mac (or indeed the PC).

We have yet another product that will work with PCs, described as "should work" (as long as you have a suitable DVI port on a suitable graphics card).

As a consequence the 17" Apple Display is on the Apple Store for only USD$699. Can't remember what it used to be. That might be a bargain. The new displays run at $1,299, $1,999 and $3,299. Not to forget that with the 30" you'd also need a $599 graphics card to run it...

From what I've seen of the screenshots of Tiger (at the Tiger preview site), Apple seem to be moving towards the smoother flatter look of the Pro apps (like FinalCut Pro HD). I'm sure there is reasoning behind this - perhaps it's to also tie in with the flatter look of their hardware (as opposed to the original iMac's, and blue G3's which had a similar stripe in their aesthetic).

No new iMac, but that's not altogether surprising (no live video of this keynote), but as others have pointed out, it's far to early in the year to release a consumer product.

On another note, pinkerton mentions the Reality Distortion Field. Ah, Apple.
