The Engine

As an amazing first an engine that has powered my site has actually lasted in production on pftqg.com (and now patrick.geek.nz) for into it's third year. Well, ok, it landed in late 2002, but it has lasted through 2003 and now heading into 2004. I don't think any part of my previous site has lasted that long.

The classes have undergone revisions, and /lib/* now lives outside the webtree, but esentially it's the same beast. It's still predominantly XML based, although xml-newstyle added a whole lot of flexibility in terms of content and greater scope for additions.

It's still pure CSS, although the CSS definition has changed quite a bit, and so has the template - thanks in part to my own learning as to manipulating lists in CSS.

I just changed the footer. Copyright © 2001-2004. Wow.

What changes are ahead for the site this year? Well there is the ongoing threat of a move to a database backed system. Though I still don't see the need for that. There is only one part of the site driven by a database at the moment, good ol' b2. Perhaps 2004 will actually bring about writing my own blog tool, but for now it does the job. Perhaps 2004 will introduce an admin tool for the rest of the site. But then, it's easy enough to just open a text editor...
